Ring Around The Roses

We caught up with Ella Zheng, who created some beautiful handmade bracelets for the latest BLOOM capsule. Having been train in two design disciplines, she brings a unique perspective with her accessories brand Trigger Happy.

Hello Ella! Tell us abit more of yourself and what you do.

Hello there! I'm Ella, the creator behind Trigger Happy. We specialize in crafting unique, hand-beaded jewelry for those who embrace color and individuality. 😊

You might also know me as "Ellaisweird" or "designerinsingapore" in the local Singapore illustration community. Recently, together with Kaia from Studio Yono and my husband Ryan, with whom I co-manage Aaah House, we opened a shop tucked inside Nana and Bird, which also carries the exquisite designs of Shirt Number White.

Fun tip: I’ve known Shannon for 21 years 😏

What does Trigger Happy represent?

Trigger Happy embodies the precious emotions tied to treasuring something special and celebrates the embrace of unique individualities.

With your varied design background in fashion, visual communication, and now working on this amazing passion that has becoming work, how do you see creativity in all of these.

My diverse design background allows me to express creativity in distinct yet equally fulfilling ways. In Fashion Design, I see it as identifying gaps within the industry, creating designs that may not appeal to everyone but resonate with a niche community, which I find truly enjoyable. In Graphic Design, it’s about solving problems with universally understandable solutions while maintaining aesthetic appeal.

With Trigger Happy, it parallels my fashion creativity by expressing my art through beadwork. Each piece is a unique creation, making the process incredibly exciting. I’m grateful for my creative journey and the opportunity to lead such an intriguing life. 😊

Talk us through your creation process.

Every creation starts with a spark of inspiration, whether it’s from a beautiful flower arrangement, a captivating photoshoot, or the world of fashion. This initial inspiration guides me in determining the attitude and character the necklace should convey. I carefully select colors from my bead collection that I believe will add intrigue to the design.

As I embark on the creative journey, I design and craft the piece intuitively, allowing it to evolve naturally. This process is incredibly therapeutic and resembles meditation for me. 😊 To stay engaged, I often listen to thought-provoking documentaries because the serene atmosphere might otherwise lull me to sleep! 😅

Describe yourself style in 5 words or less.

Quirky, attention grabbing and fun.

Tell us your favorite SN°W shirt and why! 😎

My most beloved Shirt Number White creation is a custom-made Oblong shirt in Sunbeam that I requested from Shannon 😄 I was captivated by the exquisite marigold fabric with its contemporary oriental charm. Shannon’s design for the shirt is truly splendid; the way it gracefully drapes and flows is utterly captivating. I also find it incredibly versatile, allowing me to style it in countless ways, and it always brings a burst of sunshine to my wardrobe! 💛

Favorite choice of drink and the best way to enjoy it. (However your interpret this question)

Is it just me, or does this question feel tailor-made for me? 😄 Once upon a time, Coke Original held the throne as my absolute favorite drink, but now, ice lemon tea shares that special place in my heart too.

When it comes to Coke Original, nothing beats it when it’s poured over ice in a glass - those from the cans are the absolute finest!

As for ice lemon tea, you’ve got to savor it from your local coffeeshop, especially on a scorching day – it’s an instant cooldown remedy. 😎

Here’s a pro tip from a friend: Try mixing both! They did it in a cinema, and though I haven’t tried it myself yet, I’m eager to give it a go! 🥤🍋
